What the job involves

As a Design Engineer you will be part of our central design team, working across all of our markets globally. Your primary focus will be on GB and German projects, whilst also supporting our wider portfolio across all other markets. You will be based at our head office in London, working closely with our other central teams including Development and Grid.

You will work on projects from origination through to construction, creating site layout plans, planning drawing packages, legal drawings and engineering schematics, with 3D modelling experience also being an advantage.

More detail on the design work undertaken at each stage of our projects is provided below:

  • During origination, you will be involved in the initial analysis of sites, assessing site suitability and creating a concept design. Property drawings are a significant part of this stage.
  • A large focus of our work is during the development stage – Field is owner and operator of all of our sites and so we do a lot of upfront assessments and design work to support our planning applications. You will use topographic surveys, intrusive ground investigations, infiltration testing and access studies to inform the designs and ensuring that they are robust, and safe to construct and operate.
  • Once a project has received planning consent you will work with our construction team and contractors to ensure the project is built in accordance with our design standards, reviewing detailed design drawings from the contractor, and working on planning variations where needed.

It's a fast-paced environment where you'll need to work both quickly and accurately, contributing to the company's growth as we work towards global climate goals.

  • Creation of site layout plans, planning drawing packages, legal drawings and engineering schematics across multiple projects, spanning our global portfolio. You will work with internal Grid, Origination and Development teams and external consultants to design sites that meet all technical, legal and commercial requirements.
  • Completion of a full suite of drawings and plans to support your designs including: Single-line diagrams, Planning application drawing packages, Land and legal plans, Engineering schematics and utility drawings, Cut & fill and levels drawings, Pre-construction information.
  • Production of 3D site design models using Civil 3D to calculate site levels and earthwork requirements, with 3D visualisation experience also being an advantage.
  • Review of internal and external design packages to ensure all work meets our requirements and standards. This includes GI reports, drainage designs, supplier technical manuals and drawings.
  • Review of tender documents and data sheets to continually develop our in house design knowledge and processes, covering technical information, construction methods and safety requirements.
  • Ensuring all design work is undertaken in accordance with CDM regulations, with a clear understanding of Field's duties and responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support of the implementation of Field’s internal data management system and processes.
