Cloud Software Engineer

As a Mid-level Cloud Engineer within the WebNet team, you will work across application and platform development. You will have solid working knowledge of one or more object-oriented languages, such as PHP, Golang, Node.js (TypeScript) or C#, alongside web technologies including TypeScript, HTML and CSS. The role focuses on developing and delivering application-level platform services, APIs, IoT integrations and backend tooling for the DSE WebNet platform.

Your primary focus will be the continued development of DSE WebNet, DSE's IoT platform. You will also contribute to a range of supporting tools and business systems.

DSE operates in the energy control and automation markets. Its products support power generation and control across generator sets, renewable energy systems, microgrids and off-highway machinery.

You will contribute to application and platform development across WebNet, applying a developing track record of problem-solving and quality-focused software delivery. You will collaborate closely with the team, respond positively to technical guidance and continue to build your application architecture skills. You will take ownership of assigned work, raise risks and issues proactively, and continually develop your technical capability.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will bring strong communication skills, a practical can-do attitude and a genuine interest in innovative technology. This opportunity offers valuable experience in industrial controls, IoT infrastructure and cloud-native best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in requirements capture and contribute to application architecture discussions, taking ownership of assigned development tasks through to delivery
  • Support the team in ensuring application-level reliability, quality standards, safety and security objectives are met within platform services and APIs
  • Assist in building and maintaining monitoring, alerting and dashboarding solutions using Grafana and OpenTelemetry
  • Work with the Cloud SRE to understand platform reliability metrics and ensure application code supports robust, performant and maintainable services
  • Develop a working understanding of cloud infrastructure across GCP, Azure or AWS, collaborating with senior engineers and the Cloud SRE on infrastructure requirements
  • Develop and deploy containerised application workloads using Docker and Kubernetes, working with the Cloud SRE on cluster-level operations as needed
  • Work within CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, delivering application code through automated workflows from commit through to production
  • Contribute to the improvement of development standards and SDLC practices as the team evolves towards a fully automated delivery process
  • Develop platform-level services and tooling in one or more of PHP, Golang, NodeJS (TypeScript) or C#
  • Maintain and extend WebNet's MQTT broker infrastructure and WebSocket/HTTP API layers
  • With a focus on IoT protocols and technologies, remain up to date with the latest developments and bring forward suggestions where relevant
  • Be open and innovative in the use of new programming platforms and tools
  • Participate in software and infrastructure design reviews and apply agreed coding standards and best practices in your own work
  • Demonstrate diligent use of company version control systems and good Git discipline
  • Support software deliveries through test, production and commercial deployment
  • Produce professional documentation as a key part of the full development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with the Cloud SRE on platform operational matters and contribute to post-incident reviews where relevant

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of one or more of PHP, Golang, NodeJS (TypeScript) or C#
  • Familiarity with MySQL or NoSQL fundamentals
  • API design and programming (JSON/REST)
  • Competent user of Git for source control management
  • Awareness of IoT technologies and protocols such as MQTT and edge devices
  • WebSocket and HTTP fundamentals
  • Excellent team player with collaborative problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Able to break down tasks and produce reasonable estimates of effort with guidance
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiastic and optimistic with a genuine passion for cloud-native and IoT technology
  • Receptive to feedback and mentorship, with a proactive approach to personal development
  • Good communicator with technical colleagues and wider stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerised application deployment
  • Awareness of infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform and/or Ansible)
  • Some experience working within CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred)
  • Basic understanding of cloud platform concepts across GCP, Azure or AWS
  • Qualification or Equivalent Experience in Software Engineering or Cloud Engineering
