Hunmanby, North Yorkshire or Mansfield, Nottinghamshire | Full-time | Permanent | Hybrid

Deep Sea Electronics (DSE) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of generator controllers, automatic transfer switch controllers, battery chargers, and vehicle control systems. With customers in over 150 countries and a reputation for innovation, quality, and reliability, we continue to invest in our people, products, and processes. Our products serve the energy control and automation market, supporting generator sets, renewable energy, microgrids and off-highway machinery.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Engineering department, based either at our Hunmanby, North Yorkshire headquarters or at our Mansfield office. Reporting to the Hardware Team Manager, you will design, develop and support reliable control electronics for generator sets used in critical power applications, and for human-machine interfaces (HMIs) used on off-highway vehicles. You will work on new product development and support our existing product portfolio. This is a hands‑on role, taking designs from concept through to volume production.

The Role

As a senior member of our hardware team, you will:

  • Design hardware for embedded devices and systems, from requirements through to volume production
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts and wiring diagrams for genset control and monitoring systems and HMI control panels
  • Design circuits for voltage, current and frequency sensing, phase detection and power quality monitoring
  • Implement protection circuits for over‑current, over‑voltage, short‑circuit and fault isolation
  • Support the integration of microcontrollers, relays and communication interfaces such as Modbus, CAN and Ethernet
  • Make sure designs meet the relevant UL, IEC, BS EN and regional EMC and power standards
  • Carry out fault analysis, derating, creepage/clearance and thermal design
  • Work with compliance teams during certification testing and audits
  • Develop and run hardware validation plans covering functional, environmental and stress testing
  • Test designs in the lab using generators, utility sources and load banks
  • Support prototype builds, DFM and DFT
  • Work with Purchasing and suppliers on component selection, dual sourcing and cost optimisation
  • Provide production support, failure analysis and field issue resolution
  • Support our existing battery charger products

About You

We’re looking for a skilled, detail‑focused hardware engineer with:

  • 7+ years’ experience in electronics or electrical design
  • A strong understanding of AC power systems, three‑phase power and generator‑utility interfaces
  • Experience in analogue hardware design, including signal conditioning and processing
  • Solid knowledge of EMC principles and of both analogue and digital design
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD or CADSTAR
  • Hands‑on experience with oscilloscopes, power analysers and high‑power lab equipment
  • The ability to turn requirements into a technical product specification
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills, and comfort working in high‑reliability, safety‑critical environments
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

It would be great if you also have power electronics or power systems design experience (10+ years), experience with EMC‑focused PCB layout, or experience with sensor interfacing. Experience with industrial communication protocols, creating EN safety reports or designing test equipment would also be welcome. So would an understanding of embedded software, familiarity with stage‑gated or agile development (e.g. Jira), or a Master’s degree.

Why Join DSE?

Join a successful global business where you’ll design products that keep critical power running around the world, and see your work through from concept to volume production.

Benefits include:

  • 25 days holiday & Bank Holidays
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity pay
  • 5% Pension contributions
  • Companywide performance based annual bonus scheme
