Join as a Co-Founder in Residence in Climate. We are seeking entrepreneurial individuals with technical and commercial expertise interested in founding and building a global impact-driven, high-growth company from the ground up.
We are looking for experienced professionals from industry, startups, or science and engineering fields to work on deploying innovative methane abatement technologies in solid waste sites worldwide, especially in the global south. You will work closely with the DSV team and the current Founder in Residence to co-found and spin out a new company. After incorporation with pre-seed investment from DSV, you and your co-founders will own the majority stake and continue to receive support from DSV. The role is full-time and initially remote, with future offices expected on the East Coast of the United States. International travel is anticipated for about 50% of the time once the company gains momentum.
The Opportunity
Atmospheric methane contributes over 30% to current global warming, with rising levels. Over 60% of municipal solid waste is landfilled without effective methane mitigation, emitting over 50 teragrams of methane annually, equivalent to more than a gigaton of CO2. Our company aims to reduce methane emissions by targeting diffuse emissions from solid waste sites using innovative oxidation technologies based on methanotrophic bacteria, offering a more robust and cost-effective alternative to thermal oxidation methods.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent R&D experience in environmental engineering, atmospheric sciences, landfill gas management, focusing on methane measurement and mitigation strategies.
- Expertise in quantifying landfill methane flux, optimizing biocover performance, and developing practical solutions for diverse waste sites.
- Deep knowledge of current technologies and constraints in landfill cover systems, methane collection, oxidation strategies, and measurement technologies.
- Understanding of the waste management industry, regulations, stakeholder dynamics, business models, financing, and policies related to methane reduction globally.
- Experience in scaling new technologies, raising funds from investors, and working in emerging markets.
- Leadership experience and proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
Benefits
Joining DSV provides access to proprietary tools, sector-specific know-how, up to £250k investment, guaranteed income until company launch, majority equity stake, ongoing support, and collaboration with a network of founders.
