The Additive Manufacturing technician will be part of a skilled production team working to produce high-quality large-pressure vessels with DED-arc additive manufacturing equipment. This role involves work in a dynamic production environment, following operational procedures, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare machines for builds, carry out calibrations and conduct routine maintenance, resolve machine build issues, and support the engineering team to recover build failures to minimise scrap.
  • Ensure machine parameters meet part production specifications prior to manufacturing.
  • Operate and monitor machines’ performance during the manufacturing process to ensure key parameters are maintained.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during the printing process and inform the AM Supervisor.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on the printed parts to ensure surface quality and dimensional accuracy before dispatch to the next operation.
  • Follow established quality control procedures to ensure the manufactured parts meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Document and report any deviations or non-conformities in the manufacturing process or finished products.
  • Evaluate the assigned schedule and, where potential delays are foreseen, ensure timely communication to shift lead(s), supporting alternative plans that minimise the effect on delivery.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team or equipment suppliers for complex repairs or maintenance tasks.
  • Work to standard operating procedures whilst maintaining cleanliness and housekeeping standards within the workplace.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and colleagues.
  • Support and encourage team working across the shift and shift patterns.
  • Work efficiently within manufacturing as part of an established team.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency; provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements to the AM Supervisor and engineering team.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Core GCSE's or equivalent.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in manufacturing or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in engineering, with a focus on production and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of various additive manufacturing technologies such as DED-arc/laser and post-processing techniques such as machining and NDT.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot minor technical issues independently.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work well within a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Certification in additive manufacturing technologies or welding processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing software for production planning and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and practices in manufacturing.
  • Prior experience in additive manufacturing or a similar production environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards relevant to industry related manufacturing (e.g., ASME, ISO, DNV).
  • Strong MS Office skills.
