Are you passionate about good governance and supporting democratic decision-making? Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a proactive and skilled Senior Committee Services Officer to join our Governance team. This is a key role providing professional committee and constitutional support, leading service-based strategies and projects, and acting as the primary contact for advice on local government decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and support colleagues to ensure Committee Services meets business and organisational needs.
- Maintain and improve key committee support systems and procedures.
- Ensure statutory and legislative safeguarding standards are met.
- Support constitutional reviews and implement legislative changes.
- Advise elected members, senior managers, and committees on decision-making.
- Lead quality assurance activities and ensure compliance with local and legislative requirements.
- Build effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Support staff training and coaching on decision-focused procedures and practices.
- Support the effective operation of school appeals, including administration and clerking.
- Experience in committee and constitutional services within local government.
- Proven track record of providing support and guidance to Council committees including Cabinet.
- Strong understanding of local authority governance, decision-making processes and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly across service areas.
- Experience of clerking independent appeals including school admissions, exclusions and licensing.
