The role of Server and Cloud Engineer will have many responsibilities within the IT Department, ensuring that the Lincolnshire Police Force is maintaining high availability of systems, security standards and adhering to national security expectations, principles, policies, and procedures.
The Server and Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, configuration and ongoing management and maintenance of all server and storage technologies.
Server and Cloud Engineers will work within a team of Server Specialists in a 3rd line capacity alongside other separate 3rd line support teams such as Network and Security Specialists to ensure that security standards are met and enforced where necessary and systems are inducted into a standardised monitoring platform with appropriate monitoring and alerting metrics.
The position holder will work closely with our Information Management Unit and Security Specialists to ensure security best practices are being adhered to within the server estate and implement remediation plans off the back of IT Health check reports.
The role will be responsible for maintaining service availability through the proactive use of various monitoring and alerting systems, such as SolarWinds.
Server and Cloud Engineers will diagnose faults and provide 3rd line support on IT issues raised through the IT Service Desk and will need to communicate resolutions to all levels of staff, recognising where service improvements can be made through trend analysis.
The position holder will demonstrate the force values at all times. All staff involved in carrying out functions in this role will do so in accordance with the principles of the Code of Ethics. The aim of the Code of Ethics is to support each member of the policing profession to deliver the highest professional standards in their service to the public.
CORE WORK AREAS:
- Provide third line response to IT incidents, service requests and problems, undertake fixes where possible.
- Perform all aspects of administrating, operating, managing and maintaining the hybrid server and storage technologies and estate to ensure availability to all users.
- Plan, design, produce, and maintain documentation to support the development of an effective infrastructure.
- Ensure the data contained within the IT systems is kept secure and to the correct authorised personnel through various mechanisms including effective patch management, updating of firmware and operating systems, appropriate segregation and access control.
- Participate in solutions options analysis and product selection during the development of new and enhanced systems within the domain, using technical knowledge to aid the implementation of projects and requirements.
- Monitor traffic performance and quality of service provided by the systems and their constituent hardware, software, transmission services and support functions, identifying where issues may arise.
- Provides out of hours assistance to users and colleagues by participating in the IT out of hours on call service.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of current practice in own area of expertise.
