CORE WORK AREAS
- Power BI Development: Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and paginated reports. Build and optimise Power BI semantic models, including star schemas, relationships, measures, and row-level security. Create and maintain dataflows and shared datasets to support enterprise reporting.
- Data Modelling & Architecture: Apply dimensional modelling principles to support analytical workloads. Work with data engineers to design and document technical solutions. Ensure interoperability with the wider data platform.
- Operational Support & Estate Management: Maintain the day-to-day running of the Force’s Power BI estate, including workspace management, dataset refresh monitoring, gateway oversight, and performance optimisation. Ensure all developments adhere to Force processes, security standards, and testing requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Gathering: Engage with business stakeholders to gather, document, and validate business requirements. Produce Business Requirements Documents (BRDs). Support the Force Performance Management Team in data visualisation and insight delivery.
- DevOps & Delivery Processes: Create, update, and manage DevOps work items (user stories, tasks, bugs). Contribute to version control, deployment pipelines, and release processes.
- Research & Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of technological advances in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and related BI technologies. Evaluate and recommend tools, standards, and practices to support BI capability development.
- Documentation: Produce and maintain business requirement documents, technical design documents, implementation notes, and user guides.
Understanding of data modelling techniques for relational and dimensional databases (e.g. dimensional modelling theory). Knowledge or experience of ORACLE or Microsoft SQL Server databases including the creation of database objects and stored procedures. Business analysis knowledge. Working knowledge of ITIL. Working knowledge of XML, ASP.NET, HTML, Javascript, CSS and SQL Server.
