We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible Volunteer Bicycle Ride Leaders to lead fun, safe, and engaging group bike rides for young people, families, and community members. This is a fantastic opportunity to promote fitness, confidence, independence, and enjoyment of cycling while supporting our mission to create positive opportunities for local youth.
As a Ride Leader, you will plan and lead regular bike rides, ensuring participants feel safe, supported, and motivated.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and lead safe, enjoyable group bicycle rides of varying distances and abilities
- Learn and familiarise yourself with suitable local cycling routes
- Carry out pre-ride safety checks on group bikes where necessary
- Manage group dynamics, ensuring all participants feel included and supported
- Promote road safety and cycling best practices during rides
- Respond effectively to any incidents or emergencies using First Aid skills
- Maintain clear communication with participants and Thrive 2Gether staff
- Help build a positive, fun, and encouraging atmosphere on every ride
- Passionate about cycling and working with young people and/or families
- Excellent communication and people skills—fun, engaging, and approachable
- Highly organised and reliable with good attention to detail
- Valid First Aid qualification (or willingness to complete one)
- Valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) for working with children and vulnerable adults
- Ability to lead and manage groups confidently and responsibly
- Enthusiastic, positive, and patient attitude
- Knowledge of basic bicycle maintenance and repairs
- Good knowledge of the Watford and surrounding Hertfordshire cycling routes
- Previous experience leading groups, coaching, or working in a youth setting
- Cycling proficiency (e.g., Bikeability Level 3 or equivalent)
