Improving the environment in Royston and surrounds by bringing people together.
Royston Environmental Group is a volunteer-run group that aims to improve the environment in the Royston area and globally. We want to bring together the residents of the Royston area and foster a better understanding of environmental issues and what you can do to help. We organise a variety of events and initiatives from Green Festivals to litter picks to Plastic Free Royston. Collaboration with other local groups and institutions is key to what we do.
The role: Aspects of this project are contained and time-limited, while other aspects could possibly run indefinitely; the choice is up to the volunteer(s) who take it up, what they prefer to do. REG have identified that this is a subject that many residents can relate to and are interested in. Therefore we would like to broaden our reach in this area and help residents do it well. This project could encompass many points such as:
- Links to and advertising the Community Garden
- Organising and promoting a one-off public talk on wildlife or climate mitigation gardening
- A network of “signed up” wildlife gardens in Royston
- Work with schools or children's groups on the benefits of wildlife in gardening
- Compiled online lists of species present in Royston, working with relevant partners
- Interaction with NHC’s Bee Corridor project
Ideally a public talk would take place in late Winter/early Spring to capture interest in the time when gardeners are planning and beginning their gardening year. You will have an interest in gardens and the outdoors but don’t need to be an expert in either gardening or minibeasts!
