To support refugees and asylum seekers in developing their English language skills helping them to build confidence and integrate into the community.
Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering ESOL classes to adult learners at varying levels of English proficiency
- Support learners one-to-one or in small groups with speaking, listening, reading, and writing
- Help prepare learning materials and classroom activities
- Encourage participation and build learners’ confidence in using English in everyday situations
- Provide informal conversational practice and support
- Offer cultural orientation where appropriate (e.g., local services, daily life in the UK)
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to the ESOL coordinator
Skills and Experience
- Good standard of written and spoken English
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Teaching or tutoring experience

Time Commitment – typically 3 hours a week, Tuesday daytime. Minimum commitment of 6 months preferred.
