We are seeking a dedicated and values-driven individual to join our Board of Trustees as a Safeguarding Trustee. The Safeguarding Trustee will help the Board maintain strong safeguarding oversight and support the organisation in continuing to provide safe, effective services for young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Board in monitoring safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Providing safeguarding oversight and challenge where appropriate
  • Helping ensure safeguarding remains central to organisational decision-making
  • Supporting the charity in understanding safeguarding responsibilities and best practice
  • Advising on issues relating to young people, education, Alternative Provision or the wider youth sector
  • Acting as a safeguarding champion at Board level

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in safeguarding, education, youth work, Alternative Provision or children’s services
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and best practice
  • Has experience working with young people or vulnerable groups
  • Can provide strategic oversight and support

However, if you do not have direct safeguarding experience but feel passionate about supporting young people and contributing to the Board, we would still love to hear from you.

All trustees are expected to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of trustee responsibilities and legal duties
  • The ability to think strategically and contribute to collective decision-making
  • Good judgement, professionalism and integrity
  • A willingness to respect confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities
  • The ability to commit time consistently to the role
  • A willingness to undertake a DBS check

Time Commitment:

Trustees are expected to attend:

  • Four Board meetings per year (approximately two hours each)
  • Around three to four hours per month outside of meetings for preparation and involvement
  • Occasionally, trustees may also contribute to additional projects such as strategy development or recruitment.

Trustee Responsibilities and Legal Duties:

Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity:

  • Operates in line with its charitable purpose and for the public benefit
  • Uses resources responsibly and effectively
  • Complies with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains appropriate oversight, governance and accountability

Trustees must act with reasonable care and skill and always in the best interests of the charity.
