Key Responsibilities
- Show commitment to the concept and work of Child Contact Centres.
- Possess an ability to relate well to people non-judgementally.
- Communicate effectively.
- Experience of working with children and families (desirable).
- Some knowledge of issues affecting separating families (desirable).
- Demonstrate firmness, reliability, a sense of humour.
Key Tasks
- Be a reliable volunteer; inform the Co‑ordinator or team leader if you cannot attend.
- Arrive promptly and prioritize setting up the room and briefing session.
- Be a team player; take your part in the tasks of the morning, look out for any issues and act on them or bring them to the attention of the team leader.
- Help to create a welcoming, warm, safe and friendly atmosphere.
- Be alert to any signs of distress or trouble and act promptly – referring to the team leader if necessary.
- Remain neutral to any issues raised by the parties present.
- Ensure that all family information remains confidential, either written or discussed within the contact visit.
- Be self‑aware and alert to your own emotional and other needs – use the debriefing session to talk through the issues of the morning and seek further help from a management group member if required.
Team member
- Attend training and volunteer meetings.
- If unable to attend in person complete the training online and return the certificate to the Co‑ordinator promptly.
- Read and routinely refresh your knowledge of the Child Contact Centre’s and NACCC’s policies in relation to child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities, domestic violence, complaints, confidentiality and critical incidents.
