We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers for Wimpole’s popular and profitable second-hand bookshop. By getting involved, you could:
- Become part of a friendly and dedicated team in Wimpole’s most successful fund-raising hub
- Become an integral part of the community in Wimpole’s bustling new-look Stables area
- Meet new people from all walks of life and make new friends
- Enjoy new experiences and learn something new every day
You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves.
What’s involved?
- Providing a high level of customer service and a warm and friendly welcome to visitors, including families with children.
- Assisting with receipt, pricing and display of stock
- Providing advice and information to visitors on stock and stock layout
- Becoming proficient in using the till and selling stock to visitors and observing all prescribed financial systems and procedures
- Helping to ensure the second-hand bookshop is clean and tidy at all times
This role will suit you if you are:

We’ll help you get to know Wimpole, how you can help and how you will work with the rest of the team – with induction and training. We provide equipment to help you do this role well and safely. We’ll also cover agreed costs of your travel between home and Wimpole (up to 40 miles round trip).
