Summary

Support fun and practical 2-hour sessions about bees and pollinators for children aged 5-11. Be part of a small planning team and run small group activities.

Detailed description

Help inspire children to learn and care about how important honeybees and other pollinators are in our beautiful natural world. Enthusiasm and rapport with young children are more important than formal qualifications. Interest in honey bees and other pollinators or a willingness to learn would be a bonus.

A typical 2-hour session could include making a collage to learn about the amazing body of the honeybee; watching bees at work in our observation hive and small apiary; a pollination game in our lovely pollinator-friendly garden.

Our Discovery Centre is a fully resourced classroom-sized outbuilding with an indoor observation hive and views into our small apiary, set in a lovely garden. Lesson plans available but new ideas always welcome. You would join a small friendly team setting up, planning and delivering hands-on sessions.

We are hoping to run weekly sessions for schools, home education groups and uniformed groups through May to August, depending on availability of volunteers.

We usually allow an hour for set-up and and an hour for clear-up. Plus a couple of hours planning. Our visits get very positive feedback as we offer an exciting hands-on experience not possible in a traditional classroom setting.
