Leisure & Culture Dundee is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) SC042421. It was established by Dundee City Council in July 2011 to deliver leisure, sports, library, information and cultural services for the city. Leisure and Culture Dundee, in partnership with Dundee City Council, is looking to recruit an Active Schools Assistant to join our successful Active Schools Team.
This exciting role requires candidates to have the desire and commitment to use sport and physical activity to improve the lives of children and young people through the delivery of safe and fun sport and physical activity sessions/interventions. In addition, candidates should have sports coaching experience, experience in organising sport and physical activity programmes and events, and experience of engaging with children and young people through sport and physical activity.
Working 37 hours per week term time plus (43 weeks) within the Active Schools Team, located at various schools in Dundee. This is a fixed term post until the 31st March 2027.
Requirements
- SVQ Level 3 in a Sport or physical activity related field and/or work‑related experience.
Responsibilities
- As part of a dynamic Leisure and Sport Section, you will contribute to the section's social objectives by developing programmes and activities with schools within the Active Schools services.
- You will develop and introduce a range of programmes, events and festivals and identify opportunities to improve the services and increase lifelong participation for Dundee children.
- Practical experience in sports coaching and organising participation programmes, events and festivals is essential.
- You will have experience of supporting coaches or volunteers and marketing and promoting activities/programmes.
- You should also have the ability to use a variety of software packages, including Microsoft Word.
- In addition, you will have good communication skills, both verbal and written, good presentation and people skills, have the ability to organise, be adaptable, diplomatic and approachable.
- You must be willing to work flexible hours including weekend work where required and be willing to undertake personal development.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Leisure & Culture Dundee.
