We are a well-established training and dispensing practice with a supportive multidisciplinary team, daily coffee breaks and weekly clinical meetings. We offer a structured induction, study leave and support for developing specialist interests.

If you are looking for a friendly practice where people feel supported, decisions are explained and your contribution is valued, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide high-quality general medical services to our patient population as part of our established clinical team.

The role includes routine and urgent patient care, participation in our total triage system, appropriate follow-up and continuity of care, clinical administration and occasional routine or palliative care home visits where required.

Patient contacts are capped in line with BMA safe working guidance at around 25 per day, with protected administration time built into each session. Triage is shared between four doctors each day, with each providing approximately half a session.

The GP will participate in weekly clinical meetings and work collaboratively with our wider multidisciplinary team. We are a training practice and welcome GPs who wish to develop specialist interests.

About us

Deddington Health Centre is a friendly, established GP practice serving around 12,500 patients in Deddington and the surrounding rural Oxfordshire villages.

We are a dispensing and training practice, rated Good by CQC, and use EMIS with a total triage model. Our population is older than average and includes three care homes, so continuity and long-term relationships with our patients are particularly important to us.

Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, an Advanced Care Practitioner, pharmacists, physiotherapy and social prescribing support. We have a local visiting service which means GP home visits are relatively few.

We place a high value on staff health and wellbeing and aim to provide a supportive working environment. Daily morning coffee, weekly clinical meetings, structured induction, protected administration time and support for professional development are all part of working at Deddington.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, safe and effective general medical care to the practice population, assessing and managing patients with acute, chronic, complex and psychological health needs.

  • Promote continuity of care, including appropriate follow-up of patients and management of long-term conditions.
  • Prescribe and review medication safely in accordance with NICE, local prescribing guidance, clinical pathways and practice policies.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency presentations, initiating emergency care where required.

  • Participate in clinical meetings, clinical governance, audit, significant-event learning, quality improvement and service development.
  • Contribute appropriately to the delivery of QOF, contractual requirements and other practice or local quality initiatives.
  • Fulfil responsibilities for adult and child safeguarding and comply with relevant legislation, guidance and practice procedures.

  • Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development, annual appraisal and GMC revalidation requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate professional registration and comply with GMC Good Medical Practice, practice policies and applicable clinical guidance.
  • Work collaboratively and equitably with colleagues, contributing appropriately to the overall clinical workload and supporting a positive, respectful and continuously improving practice culture.
  • Develop and contribute specialist interests or additional areas of responsibility where mutually agreed with the practice.
