The HCW shall provide support services by delivering comprehensive women's health care throughout the lifespan, focusing on reproductive, gynecologic, and family-centered health education. They will conduct assessments, prescribe medications, perform screening and diagnostic procedures, and provide health promotion while collaborating with healthcare teams. Additionally, they will offer a full range of healthcare services in family health ensuring proper documentation, maintaining required certifications, participating in training and quality assurance programs, and coordinating patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

HCW personnel shall have and maintain a current license to practice Medicine in any one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. This license shall be current (not revoked, suspended, or lapsed in registration), valid (the issuing authority accepts and considers quality assurance (QA) information, i.e. practitioner professional performance and conduct in determining continued licenses), and unrestricted (not subject to restriction pertaining to the scope, location, or type of practice ordinarily granted to other applicants for similar licenses in granting jurisdiction). Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to become proficient in the use of the following computer systems: MHS Genesis, Medical Protection System (MEDPROS), Medical Readiness Reporting System (MRRS), and Aeromedical Services Information Management Systems (ASIMS) within three (3) months of onboarding.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Requirements include prolonged walking, standing, sitting, or bending. The contractor must notify the Department/Clinic OIC/NCOIC or government supervisor 30 days in advance of planned absence.

EDUCATION

Graduation from a master’s degree program with specialization as a family nurse practitioner accredited by a national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Or Master’s degree from an approved OB/GYN or women’s health nurse practitioner program or Advance Certification (Certificate of Authority) acceptable to the USAF Surgeon General.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of six years nursing experience. Shall have three (3) years Nurse Practitioner (NP) experience with two (2) years within the last thirty-six months.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shall have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to provide comprehensive women’s health care throughout the lifespan, with an emphasis on reproductive, gynecologic, and family-centered health education.
  • Shall understand growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes, specific to the obstetrical and gynecological population from menarche through the lifespan.
  • Shall be familiar with a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, their desired effects, side effects, and complications, as well as the accurate administration of these agents, including dosage calculations as required.
  • Shall know the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress, acknowledgment of teaching, and follow-up care.
  • Shall have proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated medical records.
  • Shall possess a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification with the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for Obstetrics, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing Specialties.
  • Providers will be subject to the credentials and privileging requirements of AFI 44-119, Clinical Performance Improvement, as well as adverse actions.
  • The MTF Chief of the Medical Staff, or representative, will define equipment and facility capabilities and verify credentialing package meets MTF requirements.
  • Providers shall obtain privileges through the applicable MTF Credentials Committee.
  • The Government shall review the credentials of all providers; privileges shall be awarded before starting work at the MTF.
  • Clinical or administrative adverse actions will be handled in accordance with applicable Air Force instructions.
  • The Government will conduct criminal background checks on all providers.
  • The HCW shall disclose any medical or mental health concerns affecting their ability to provide care.
  • An annual physical examination is required, with proof provided by a qualified medical practitioner.
  • Obtain and document a relevant health history, including a comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic history, with emphasis on gender-based differences.
  • Perform and document complete, system, or symptom-directed physical examinations on women, including gynecologic conditions and needs.
  • Identify gynecologic deviations from normal, formulate a diagnosis, collaborate, and/or refer as necessary.
  • Order screening and diagnostic procedures and interpret test results.
  • Perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures, including cervical cytologic screening, microscopy, endometrial biopsies, colposcopy, and IUD insertion.
  • Prescribe therapies, including medications, considering pregnancy and lactation status, sociocultural background, and financial resources.
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Provide health promotion and disease prevention services to women across the life cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Serve and participate in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed.
