Decordia Events is a creative events company delivering bold, high-impact live experiences for UK brands, organisations and cultural spaces. We design and build immersive environments, scenic elements and event spaces that bring ideas to life with sustainability, collaboration and craft at the heart of everything we make.
We are now looking for Design Assistants to join our workshop team for our upcoming busy event season. This is a hands-on, junior creative role for someone who wants to build their design skills in a real-world environment - from concept through to delivery.
While these roles will ultimately be split into two distinct areas of responsibility, there will be shared ownership across workshop, build and event delivery, with responsibilities allocated based on individual strengths and experience.
The Role in Practice
- Design & Creative Support
- Assist with creating mood boards, design mock-ups and visual references for live events
- Support the preparation of technical drawings for scenic builds, signage and props
- Help translate creative concepts into practical build solutions
- Work closely with the Lead Designer to develop and refine ideas
- Scenic Build & Finishing
- Execute scenic painting for sets, signage and props in line with design specifications
- Build and finish small-scale scenic elements, props and signage under guidance
- Support the construction, prep and finishing of event assets
- Assist with install and de-rig on-site at events and venues
- Workshop Operations
- Maintain workshop organisation, cleanliness and safety standards
- Monitor, manage and replenish tools, materials and workshop supplies
- Support procurement of materials and equipment within agreed budgets
- Act as a keyholder, with responsibility for opening and closing the workshop
- Ensure all work aligns with our sustainability strategy, actively looking for ways to reduce waste and environmental impact
- Suggest improvements to processes, materials and ways of working
- Team & Supervision
- Lead and supervise work experience students and volunteers in the workshop
- Delegate tasks clearly and ensure work is completed safely and to quality standards
- Support a positive, collaborative and inclusive workshop culture
Who is this role for?
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career who already has some core creative or practical skills and is ready to build on them. If you are curious, hands-on and eager to develop, this role will give you the chance to grow your confidence and capability in a supportive environment.
You will work across the full creative journey from initial ideas and concept development through to final installation gaining real, practical experience in scenic construction, painting, prop-making and technical design. It is a role for someone who is not afraid to roll their sleeves up, ask questions and learn by doing, with plenty of opportunity to strengthen and expand your design and build skillset along the way.
You will regularly leave the workshop to work on-site at events and venues, seeing first-hand how designs come together in real performance spaces. You will also be part of a team that actively challenges itself to work more sustainably and improve how things are done.
Training & Development Opportunities
We are committed to helping you grow. Training opportunities may include:
- Carbon Literacy Training
- Manual Handling Training
- MEWP Training (where required)
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Manchester-based
- On-site working at our Trafford Park workshop
