Specimen Dissection - Team Leadership - The Highest Standards: This is not a standard lab role. Ours is not a standard Histopathology Lab. At Diagnexia you are the clinical reference point for a fully digitised pathology laboratory — leading on shift, developing people, and contributing directly to a service that is changing how pathology is delivered at scale. If you have taken your dissection expertise as far as your current environment allows, this is your next move.

Your role:

  • Lead the lab on shift as the most senior dissection practitioner accountable for throughput, quality, and team performance day to day.
  • Dissect a range of RCPath Category A through E specimens, be our technical reference for every junior in the lab.
  • Drive quality and compliance – assist with UKAS and ISO 15189 audit readiness.
  • Maintain and develop SOPs to RCPath standards.
  • Develop your team – design and deliver training, run competency assessments, participate in hiring and appraisals.
  • Deputise for the Lab Manager – operational lead during planned absences.
  • Contribute to business development as required.
  • Drive R&D – contribute to tissue labelling, digitisation, and analysis technique development.

Why Senior BMS (Dissection) are joining Diagnexia:

  • Above market salary: Your dissection expertise is priced from day one — not after years of incremental waiting.
  • Performance pay progression: Annual increases tied to your impact, not a pay scale you did not write.
  • Oxford relocation bonus: Moving across UK or this? We help make your transition easier with a financial contribution.
  • Private healthcare and pension: Cover for your wellbeing, now and in the future.
  • Growing holiday entitlement: Annual leave increases with tenure. The more you give, the more you earn.
  • Clear career pathways: Structured development plans, regular reviews, and fast‑track progression opportunities.

What you need to succeed:

  • You are a UK based HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and bring the following:
  • A HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, maintained at all times with active CPD.
  • Hold a BSc Biomedical Science Degree.
  • Ideally have completed your IBMS Higher Specialist Portfolio (Dissection) or Masters.
  • 4+ years in a UKAS-accredited histopathology or cellular pathology laboratory.
  • Category A - E specimen dissection experience (not all but some).
  • Confidence with special stains, embedding, microtome, and section cutting.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising laboratory staff.
  • Digital pathology experience is a bonus, not a barrier. If you are curious and driven, we will build that with you.

What else we look for:

  • Own their work: No waiting to be managed. You close the gap between what is assigned and what actually needs doing.
  • Execute: You prioritise by impact and do not let perfect block progress.
  • Stay curious: Genuinely motivated to improve your craft and the processes around you.
  • Communicate with intent: Complex science, clear English, written and spoken, for any audience.
  • Adapt: Change is structural here. If you treat setbacks as data rather than verdicts, you will thrive.
  • Care: You bring your ambition into alignment with our mission, better faster patient outcomes. Enthusiasm is contagious, and so genuine care & passion.
