The Opportunity

Lead the preparation, governance, and delivery of high-quality IFRS financial statements and statutory accounts for legal entities across the Group. Ensure full compliance with IFRS, local GAAP, corporate accounting policies, and regulatory requirements. Drive audit readiness, manage external auditor relationships, and support technical accounting matters, including new standards and complex transactions.

Role Responsibility

This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • IFRS & Technical Accounting
    • Interpret and apply IFRS standards; ensure accurate and compliant accounting treatments for complex areas (e.g., revenue, leases, impairments, provisions, derivatives, pensions).
    • Draft and maintain accounting policy guidance and ensure consistent adoption across regions and business units.
    • Review material journal entries, adjustments, and disclosures for compliance with technical requirements.
    • Lead technical accounting reviews for new transactions (contracts, restructures, asset sales, acquisitions).
  • Statutory Reporting & Compliance
    • Own the end-to-end statutory reporting cycle for assigned legal entities, including preparation, review, and filing of annual financial statements.
    • Coordinate with local auditors, advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure all statutory filings meet deadlines.
    • Manage statutory audit processes for allocated entities, ensuring issues are addressed, timelines met, and audit readiness maintained year-round.
  • Financial Controls & Governance
    • Maintain strong entity-level financial reporting controls.
    • Strengthen the control environment across journal processing, reconciliations.
    • Lead remediation of audit findings and implement sustainable long-term control improvements.
    • Support compliance with tax, treasury, and regulatory reporting requirements linked to statutory accounts.
  • Month-End Close & Entity Review
    • Support month end close activities particularly with respect to complex accounting topics.
    • Conduct detailed balance sheet reviews.
    • Work with corporate consolidation teams to ensure correct mapping and reporting into Group systems.
  • Audit Management & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Act as primary point of contact for external auditors in allocated areas.
    • Prepare audit packs, technical papers, and disclosure support schedules.
    • Partner with business units, Shared Services/GBS, Legal, Tax, and Treasury to obtain accurate reporting inputs.
    • Communicate technical and statutory topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement & System Enhancement
    • Help support standardization of statutory reporting processes globally; implement shared templates and best practices.

The Candidate

  • Proven experience in technical accounting, statutory reporting and/or external audit roles.
  • Prior Big Four audit experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS; experience with local GAAPs (e.g., UK GAAP, US GAAP, EU/local frameworks).
  • Experience working with multinational groups and complex consolidated environments.
  • Strong background in preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and reporting tools desirable (SAP/Oracle/Blackline/HFM/Workiva).
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills; able to create clear technical papers.
  • Professional qualification: ACA/ACCA/CPA (or equivalent).

Additional Information

Occasional global travel may be required with this role. This role is based in Northwich / hybrid.
