The Associate Director, Market Research - EU & International is responsible for leading primary market research strategy and execution that delivers deep, decision‑grade insights to support pricing strategy, forecasting, new product commercialization, and portfolio strategy. The role partners closely with the VP, Global Market Intelligence, Director of Marketing EU & International, GMTE and cross‑functional leaders to translate research findings into clear strategic guidance.
Role Responsibilities
- Primary Market Research Strategy
- Partner with EU & International Marketing and GMTE to design and lead global primary research programs to support:
- Product and portfolio strategy decisions
- New product development and launch readiness
- Pricing and value perception inputs
- Demand forecasting assumptions
- Define research objectives and methodologies aligned to specific strategic decision points
- Develop and execute market research plans to gather insights and information on target markets, competitive dynamics, customer preferences and industry trends.
- Inform pipeline planning and product innovation by identifying unmet needs and assessing market viability of new products and services.
- Use customer, market, and competitive insights to inform:
- Portfolio prioritization and sequencing decisions
- Investment trade‑offs across therapeutic areas, indications, and geographies
- Lifecycle strategies for in‑line products
- Identify unmet needs and whitespace opportunities based on customer behavior and market dynamics
- Provide evidence‑based input into go/no‑go and stage‑gate decisions
- Plan and execute a blend of qualitative and quantitative research, including:
- In‑depth interviews and ethnographic research
- Concept, message, and value proposition testing
- Usage, attitudes, and segmentation studies
- Demand studies using conjoint or choice‑based methodologies
- Pricing and value research (e.g., willingness‑to‑pay, perceived value drivers)
- Build and maintain a central repository of global market and customer insights.
- Establish best practices for:
- Research design
- Insight synthesis
- Insight activation across regions
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Statistics, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Market Research, with a proven track record in managing research projects and delivering insights that influence business decisions; 2 years in the Pharmaceutical, veterinary, or animal health sector desired
- The ability to use analytical tools and software, such as Excel and SPSS, is also important for this role
- Experience in sectors such as consumer goods, technology, healthcare, or finance, where understanding market dynamics is crucial
- Experience working in global, matrixed organizations
- Strong external vendor‑management experience
- Knowledge of market research technologies and tools, such as data visualization software
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis software and tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
