The Opportunity
- Provide single point technical ownership for a given product/molecule focused on either new product introduction or external commercial supply.
- Provide technical leadership to product and program development, defining the product technical strategy required and executing in partnership with R&D and External Manufacturing.
- This role is the knowledge holder for the identified product(s) and will be the go-to individual for the manufacturing organisation.
- Owner of the product lifecycle strategy - its creation and technical stewardship through execution including industrialization, product transfer, second sourcing and material/process changes.
Role Responsibility
- In collaboration with R&D/External Manufacturing, set the product strategy ensuring robust controls strategies are developed and in place. Execute improvement plans to drive increased process capability.
- For Co-Development Product Lead, this role will be the core manufacturing member in the CMC Co-Development team, responsible for ensuring through development that manufacturing needs are fully integrated to drive robust product and process.
- For External Manufacturing Product Lead, this role will be the core MS&T member of the External Manufacturing team, working in partnership with the Supply Relationship Manager.
- Provide leadership and drive to product technical transfers, whether industrialization or commercial product transfers.
- Provide expert knowledge and guidance to teams to quickly resolve manufacturing issues and develop required improvement plans to enhance overall capability.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to site-based MS&T teams/External Manufacturing groups based on the needs of the product for any trial, registration or validation manufacture.
- Take ownership and lead any continuous improvement initiatives or troubleshooting improvements that enhance overall robustness.
- Work with Process & Analytical Science team and R&D to utilize small scale equipment across the network.
- Ownership and management of the product Lifecycle Management, defining in the first instance where required then managing the execution and evolution of changes identified.
- Provide input and technical support to wider programs and initiatives across MS&T as required.
The Candidate

- The ideal candidate will have a B.A., B.Sc, MSc or PhD in life sciences, engineering, pharmaceutics, chemistry, or similar fields.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of industrial/MS&T experience in the pharmaceutical, bio-pharmaceutical or related industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Practical knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, either small or large molecule preferably with experience in the development and scale-up of products.
- Practical knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, with hands-on experience in the troubleshooting and improvement of a product.
- Proven experience in technical transfer, whether industrialization of new products from R&D into Manufacturing or transfer of commercial product.
- Proven learning agility, able to pick up new areas and concepts rapidly shown through a broad range of experience.
- Ability to design, develop and implement effective product control strategies for pharmaceutical products that deliver a robust product designed for commercial manufacture, demonstrating a strong working knowledge of manufacturing platforms and pharmaceutical facility infrastructure.
- The position requires an understanding of the dosage form development process, along with an in-depth knowledge of process development techniques, cGMP regulations, FDA and EMA regulations and recent trends in validation concepts.
- The individual should have a sound working knowledge of statistical techniques that support product development/continuous improvement - with the ability to influence others.
Additional Information: Occasional global travel may be required with this role. This role is based in the UK/remote.
