The Role
Our technical team is looking for a strong and confident individual to work within a team of quality experts, alongside the Buying & Merchandising functions. This role will report directly to the Technical Manager and manage a dedicated area of our womenswear or menswear collections. You will work at pace, develop your technical skills, and continue to learn. Your responsibilities include supporting the brand quality strategy to protect and enhance the Brand\’s reputation by delivering safe, compliant, and commercial products, supporting sales and profitability through consistent product quality, sizing & fit, ensuring customer satisfaction, maximizing sales, and mitigating customer returns.
The Team
In Garment Technology, we obsess about product quality, design, and fit. We collaborate daily with Buying and Design teams across Debenhams brands. We’ve even opened an in-house lab. Our focus is speed, being commercial, and ensuring our customers look and feel their best.
What you\’ll be doing
- Work alongside our buying team to improve fit and collaborate with suppliers to enhance quality.
- Conduct fit sessions for your product area(s) in-house, balancing speed and quality; make commercial decisions confidently; own the fitting process and build trust with colleagues and suppliers.
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate feedback to suppliers; process samples promptly, in line with KPIs.
- Guide design, buying, and suppliers on technical aspects of new product development to reduce costs and improve quality.
- Ensure compliance with safety and reach legislation; assess risks, advise on testing, and resolve non-compliance efficiently.
- Contribute to initiatives to reduce customer returns.
- Promote quality consistently while maintaining a strong commercial focus.

More about you
Ideally, you have experience in a product quality role within an online fashion retailer or supplier, with a good understanding of product quality standards, regulations, and testing methods—experience in womenswear is preferred.
You should be experienced in managing fit and product approval processes in a competitive, fast-paced market. Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making are essential. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Familiarity with sustainability and ethical sourcing, as well as experience in a manufacturing environment, would be a plus.
You should be capable of analyzing data related to returns, including high return rates, costs, and customer feedback, with a good understanding of product development, fabric quality, garment construction, and review processes.
