At Debenhams Group, we are on a journey of transformation, revitalising our brand, culture, and connection with colleagues and customers alike. In a fast-changing retail environment, effective and authentic communication is vital to building trust, aligning our teams, and amplifying the impact of our work across internal and external audiences.
We're looking for a Full Stack Developer to join one of our Software Development teams, building and maintaining the internal applications that power the Debenhams Group business — from warehouse and buying tools to customer service and finance systems.
You’ll work across the full stack — React on the front end, Node.js on the back end — deploying to AWS as part of a team that follows event-driven architecture patterns using SNS, SQS and EventBridge. You’ll design, build and maintain internal business applications, write clean and well-tested code, and collaborate with your Team Lead, Product and other engineers to translate requirements into working software. You’ll also investigate and resolve live environment issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of team practices and tooling. This role will be based out of our central Manchester office 3 days per week.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Our tech stack consists of:
- React + Node.js
- AWS — GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Terraform for infrastructure
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB, DynamoDB
- Event-driven integrations using SNS, SQS and EventBridge
- Git and collaborative version control workflows
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- 5+ Years’ Full Stack Experience: Proven senior level professional experience building and maintaining full stack applications, comfortable working across the front end and back end.
- Proficiency in React & Node.js: Strong hands-on skills in React (hooks, state management) and Node.js, with experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Database Fundamentals: Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Cloud & AWS Awareness: Commercial experience of AWS fundamentals, with an interest in CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
- Event-Driven Architecture: Exposure to or interest in event-driven patterns such as SNS, SQS and EventBridge.
- Quality-Focused Approach: A proactive, quality-focused approach to writing clean, well-tested code, with experience using Git and collaborative version control.
- Team Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within an Agile/Scrum team.
