Overview
The Street Sweeper Operator will operate and maintain a street sweeping vehicle to ensure the cleanliness and safety of roadways and public spaces. This role involves driving along designated routes, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring streets, gutters, and public spaces are free from debris and pollutants.
Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping equipment along designated routes in urban and suburban areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of streets, gutters, sidewalks, and other public spaces by collecting debris, leaves, and other materials.
- Inspect and monitor the vehicle condition before, during, and after each shift.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning the sweeper, refueling, and ensuring proper functioning of all systems.
- Report vehicle malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with traffic laws and safety standards while operating the vehicle.
- Respond to emergency situations as directed by supervisors.
- Assist with other public works tasks as needed, such as debris removal, snow removal, or road repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, including routes, maintenance logs, and hours worked.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Class B CDL with air brake is required with 5 years of clean driving history. Previous experience operating street sweepers or similar vehicles is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good knowledge of road safety rules and traffic regulations.
- Ability to perform physical labor and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify issues with equipment or road conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
