We are seeking a skilled Utility Surveyor to join our growing surveying team delivering utility mapping and locating services across Yorkshire. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, primarily within the region, with very limited travel requiring overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct underground utility surveys using a range of detection equipment (GPR, CAT & Genny, electromagnetic locators, etc.)
  • Identify, map, and record the location and depth of existing utilities (gas, water, electric, telecoms, drainage) accurately
  • Produce clear and detailed survey reports, drawings, and as-built information for client and project use
  • Liaise directly with clients, site teams, and statutory authorities to ensure utility information is comprehensive and reliable
  • Support health and safety compliance on site, including risk assessments and method statements
  • Assist with data processing and integrating survey findings into CAD or GIS platforms as needed
  • Maintain and calibrate utility survey equipment

Candidate Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years’ experience in utility surveying or similar field operations
  • Competent with utility detection and mapping equipment (e.g., GPR, Vivax, Radiodetection)
  • Experience in producing utility plans and reports to a high standard
  • Strong understanding of underground service safety and relevant industry standards
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on site
  • Good communication skills and comfortable liaising with clients and project teams
  • Willingness to travel locally across Yorkshire; very few overnight stays expected

Desirable:

  • Formal qualifications or certifications in utility surveying or underground asset detection
  • Experience with CAD software or GIS systems
  • CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification
