We are seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer to join a growing consultancy delivering ground investigation and civil engineering projects across a range of sectors. This is a hands-on role with a balanced split between site investigation work and office-based engineering. You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from fieldwork through to reporting, interpretation, and engineering recommendations. Unlike larger organisations where graduates can become highly specialised early on, this role offers broad exposure, faster development, and involvement across multiple stages of project delivery within a close-knit consultancy environment.
The Role
- Site-based (approx. 50%)
- Carry out and support ground investigations across a variety of sites
- Undertake trial pitting, borehole logging, and soil and rock sampling
- Support drilling operations and ensure works are delivered safely and in line with specifications
- Record accurate site information including ground conditions, groundwater levels, and observations
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and site teams on active projects
- Assist in preparing factual and interpretative ground investigation reports
- Undertake desk studies including historical mapping, environmental data review, and site context analysis
- Support production of Phase 1 and Phase 2 geoenvironmental reports
- Review site investigation data and laboratory results
- Assist with geotechnical interpretation including foundations, earthworks, and risk assessments
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
- Strong interest in ground engineering and site-based civil engineering work
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying site conditions
- Good written communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to interpret and analyse technical data
- Full UK driving licence or working towards
Desirable
- Previous site investigation or construction experience (placement or internship)
- Basic understanding of soil mechanics or ground conditions
