We are seeking a driven and technically proficient Lead Land Surveyor to join our growing consultancy team. This role offers a unique opportunity to take a strategic lead in the delivery of high-quality surveying projects across the built and natural environment. Unlike a traditional survey firm, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary consultancy, working alongside engineers, planners, and project managers on diverse and challenging schemes.

As Lead Land Surveyor, you will manage and mentor a team of surveyors, ensure technical excellence, and play a key role in client engagement and business development. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of leadership, commercial awareness, and hands-on technical capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of land surveyors, supporting their professional development and ensuring high standards of delivery.
  • Oversee and conduct a range of survey types including topographical, measured building, engineering surveys, and 3D laser scanning.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and quality of survey outputs and reports across all projects.
  • Take responsibility for planning, resourcing and delivering survey work to time and budget.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, supporting business development and the preparation of competitive fee proposals.
  • Provide technical input and advice across the consultancy, collaborating with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, standards, and technological innovations.
Key Skills and Experience
  • Proven leadership experience in land or geospatial surveying, with a track record of managing teams and projects.
  • Broad technical expertise across land, building and/or engineering surveys, with hands-on experience in 3D laser scanning considered advantageous.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience in client liaison, fee proposal writing, and project budgeting.
  • High proficiency in the use of Total Stations, GNSS equipment, AutoCAD, and DTM/Land Surveying software such as N4CE, LSS, or similar.
  • Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to explain technical information to clients and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Membership of or working towards chartership with ICES and/or RICS.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to sites across the region or nationally as required.
  • Relevant qualification in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
