Location: Irlam, Manchester
Job purpose: As a Waxroom & Investment Area Team Leader you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of team members employed to work on production, to ensure operations run seamlessly. To support and enable the professional and profitable running of the company by:
- Using specified production techniques that produce required production targets, quality and maintains its ISO accreditation.
- Meeting targeted KPI’s for your area of responsibility.
- Accurately recording and keeping recorded data to enable further analysis and operational compliance. This can include work instructions, route cards information, labour bookings, stock locations, non-conformance reports, scrap and rework information.
- Maintaining all EFACS (ERP system) information accurately for your area of responsibility.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsibility for the Environmental, Health and Safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times.
- Ability to carry out comprehensive training and development for all staff within the Waxroom and Investment Area.
- Ensuring that the department is run efficiently and effectively to its full potential and targeted KPI’s are achieved.
- Communicating effectively and professionally with colleagues and senior members of staff at all times.
- Maintaining and exceeding expected targets in 5’s and housekeeping within the Waxroom and Investment Area.
- Developing and continuously improving methods of operation within your area.
- Maintaining high levels of product and operational quality in the area under your responsibility.
- Ensuring that timely maintenance is carried out on tools and machinery within the area.
- Attending and supporting new product introduction and product close out meetings.
- Deputising for your manager where your skills and experience allow.
Tasks:
- Environmental, Health and Safety – Ensure safety of staff in your area and compliance with all relevant Company information.
- Ensuring all staff members are using the correct PPE for the task in hand and it is maintained and stored correctly.
- Monitoring and recording daily activities from a H&S perspective to ensure safe practices are followed.
- Actioning and reporting any issues to your manager.
- Reporting audit findings and any employee concerns to the Environmental, Health & Safety meeting.
- Investigating and actioning any near misses and accidents.
- Always ensuring the area is safe, containment system in place and all staff have been briefed.
- For major incidents liaising with your manager.
- Undertaking fire marshal responsibilities for your area.
Training and Development:
- Develop & Maintain training plans for all members of staff.
- Carrying out 6 monthly review meetings to identify training needs.
- Identifying appropriate courses and other training for members of staff.
- Training staff with work instructions and health and safety procedures.
- Maintaining good levels of morale and discipline.
Planning of Work:
- Planning and effectively managing resources to closely match the master production plan.
- Providing weekly manning plan to ensure production targets are met.
- Daily/hourly allocating labour to achieve plan.
- Developing recovery plans and reporting any issues to your manager.
- Identifying backlogs and negotiating resource needs with fellow Team Leaders.
- Maintaining high levels of productivity.
- Ensuring all operations are booked correctly on to EFACS and the number of routings are correct for your area.
- Monitoring and reporting daily/weekly/monthly production performance vs plan, including output, labour, scrap/rework and key KPIs.
- Maintaining accurate operation times and labour bookings in EFACS for all activities within your area (e.g., injection, inspection, assembly), to support planning and performance analysis.
Communication:
- Communicating effectively and professionally with colleagues at all times.
- Attending and contributing appropriately to formal and informal team meetings.
- Working as an effective member of the team as well as Team Leader of your area.
- Carrying out weekly/monthly audits to ensure that standards are maintained and improved.
- Maintaining a clean, safe working environment in accordance with the 5S requirements.
Problem Solving/Continuous Improvement:
- Continually challenging existing methods and techniques in a controlled way to achieve continuous improvement efficiencies.
Quality:
- Carrying out process checks in accordance with the quality control requirements in the departments.
- Monitoring, recording and reporting inspection and scrap data to the quality department and ensuring all supporting EFACS information is correct.
- Ensuring that work instructions are followed and maintained at a high level.
- Setting up, demonstrating and inspecting first-off waxes / first-off checks to confirm tooling, machine settings and operator method are correct before full production.
Maintenance:
- Effectively managing daily checks of plant and equipment in the Waxroom and Investment Area.
- Reporting any faults with tools or machines on the Maintenance database and where necessary isolating/locking out if deemed dangerous.
- Ensuring tooling is checked pre- and post-operation and is fit for use; removing from service and elevating if defects are found.
Additional requirements:
You will be required to carry out additional tasks within the company as and when required, following suitable training where necessary.
Area of responsibility: From the wax injection/3D printing, to moulds being unloaded from the robot.
Experience of supervising or leading a team within a manufacturing or production function and/or a level 2/3 team leader qualification.
Good communication skills at all levels.
Strong organisational skills.
Experience of working in an Investment casting/Foundry is preferred but not essential.
Experience in H&S management and application of knowledge in carrying out risk assessments and COSHH Reviews would be beneficial.
