The role involves joining our team at Representing Border, based at the Scottish Parliament. You will provide first-class camera and programme-gathering skills, covering all aspects of our output. Responsibilities include:
- Shooting high-quality pre-planned interviews with senior politicians.
- Interviewing individuals and panels.
- Quick-turnaround reaction to breaking stories in the busy environment of the Scottish Parliament.
- Crew live broadcasts into the Lookaround and Tyne Tees news programmes using a LiveU.
- Dealing with gallery talkback as appropriate.
- Producing content for broadcast and online when required.
You will have a passion for politics, particularly in a creative and operational capacity, and will want to offer ideas on how to cover a story as well as what stories we should be covering. The successful candidate should also have a keen eye for reflecting the diverse nature of the communities in the region we serve. You will be a highly motivated individual, friendly, flexible, and approachable.
Key attributes include:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Quick thinking and calm under pressure.
- Able to digest and react to information efficiently.
- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot any issues arising with your designated kit and camera equipment.
Experience with editing and Premiere Pro is an additional benefit. Your rostered hours will generally be Monday to Thursday, though on occasions you may be expected to work Fridays, evenings, and weekends. You can expect to travel to locations around Edinburgh as well as regular travel around the ITV Border broadcast region, and on occasion further afield. Pre-filming generally takes place on Mondays in the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.
Due to the weight of the equipment needed in this role, the successful candidate will be asked to identify any pre-existing medical conditions that may be exacerbated by carrying a camera and kit. The role requires you to have a full driving license and use of your own vehicle for work purposes.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):
- Professional camera experience.
- Camera skills to include sound and lighting operations.
- A level of general technical ability and troubleshooting.
- A full driving licence.
