Deaf Choices UK is a national charity dedicated to supporting parents of deaf children in making informed choices about language, literacy, and communication.
Formerly known as Cued Speech UK for 45 years, the organization rebranded as Deaf Choices UK in December 2023 to better reflect its philosophy and ethos.
The charity recognizes that every deaf child and family has unique needs and provides tailored guidance to help families understand and meet those needs effectively.
Deaf Choices UK is the only charity in the UK that offers training in Cued Speech, empowering mostly hearing parents to communicate clearly and confidently with their deaf children.
Context
DCUK have recently had a communications review and are developing a strategy for improvement, inline with their three year charity strategy.
This is an exciting time of growth and development for the charity and we are looking to build our stakeholder awareness and increase the sales of our literacy intervention.

Role Description
This part time hybrid role as Marketing Communications Specialist focuses on raising awareness of Deaf Choices UK’s mission, services, training programs and specialist unique Foundation literacy intervention for schools and home.
The specialist will plan and execute marketing communications campaigns across digital and traditional channels, including film and video content, email communications, social media, and printed materials.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include developing key messages, drafting and distributing press releases, creating engaging content that reflects the charity’s values, and ensuring consistent branding across all outreach efforts.
The role also involves coordinating public relations activities, supporting strategic communications initiatives, analyzing campaign performance, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to promote events, training opportunities, and resources for families of deaf children.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Marketing Communications and Strategic Communications, with experience planning and delivering integrated campaigns.
- Experience of deafness, through lived experience or work experience.
- Strong Communication abilities, including clear, accessible writing and the capacity to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
- Experience creating and managing Press Releases and working with media contacts to secure coverage.
- Knowledge of Public Relations practices, including reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency with digital marketing tools (e. g., email platforms, social media management, basic analytics) and content creation.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment.
- Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory communication and an interest in issues affecting deaf children and their families.
- Relevant education or training in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field; experience in the nonprofit or charity sector is an advantage.
