A culturally rich university with a palpable commitment to the public good, we strive to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive.
The Faculty of Business and Law is based in the £35 million Hugh Aston building and is a truly global community of more than 8,000 students from over 100 nationalities. State-of-the-art study facilities include a finance trading floor, mock and real courtrooms, computer laboratories, dedicated PGR facilities along with study and breakout areas. The faculty also boasts strong links with professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, CIM, and CIPD, offering recognition and significant exemptions from professional courses across a wide range of subject areas. With a vibrant research culture, the faculty is home to a large Research and Innovation Institute for Responsible Business and Social Justice with multi-disciplinary hubs in Inclusive International Development, Inclusive Society, Sustainable Business Futures, and a Centre for Law and Social Justice. With over 200 members and affiliates, we work closely with both industry and communities locally and nationally.
The Deputy Dean will play a pivotal role in providing effective operational leadership of the faculty. You will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality learning and teaching, research and knowledge exchange, and innovation activities across the faculty. As Deputy Dean, you will manage the faculty planning and resources to support the full range of activities both current and new, promoting an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring environment for staff and students. You will champion change management initiatives, strengthen cross-faculty collaboration, and contribute to the University’s broader leadership agenda, deputising for the Dean when required.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced academic leader with senior management experience in higher education and a doctorate or equivalent standing in a relevant discipline. You will have significant experience as a Head of School or equivalent, or Faculty Executive experience with a proven track record in delivering strategy, managing budgets, student planning, and leading high-performing teams. You will demonstrate a strong understanding of academic quality, research culture, and student experience, alongside the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with the ability to lead initiatives such as Athena Swan or the Race Equality Charter is essential, and experience in supporting accreditation development, enterprise projects, or strategic partnerships locally, nationally, or internationally is highly desirable.
