Faculty / Directorate
The Estates and Facilities Directorate is large and diverse, employing over 300 people across a range of roles from manual, student-facing to professional surveyors and sustainability experts. The workload varies from proactive maintenance to reactive problem solving, always at the heart of service delivery is customer engagement.
Leisure Team
The Leisure team sits within Estates and Facilities and comprises 3 sites: The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre, The Watershed and Beaumont Park Sports Facility. The sites deliver indoor and outdoor access for competitive, recreational and social activity for students, staff and the wider community. The team consists of 32 members, supported by temporary staff covering opening times Monday–Sunday 6 am–10:30 pm.
Role
The role is part of a busy leisure team that delivers over 104 hours of contact time a week to members, pay‑as‑you‑go users, external hirers and the wider university community. It involves competently supervising and controlling a busy fitness suite, studio environment, swimming pool and climbing wall, while providing high‑quality service. The position is based at QEII Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre, full‑time (37 hours), over an 8‑week rota that includes evenings and weekends.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and knowledge all core business and support users to get the most from visits to facilities.
- Be welcoming, friendly and the go‑to person for all users on services.
- Support other colleagues across leisure when required.
Ideal Candidate
- Eager and willing to learn while undertaking a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification alongside a National Pool Lifeguard qualification; passionate about starting a career in leisure.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to use basic Microsoft Office packages.
- Willing to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required.
