Faculty / Directorate BA (Hons) Dance at De Montfort University sits within the new School of Creative Industries and Culture, as part of the new Faculty of Technology, Arts and Culture. The programme currently sits within a vibrant cluster of programmes that includes: BA (Hons) Acting, BA (Hons) Drama and Theatre Arts and BA (Hons) Creative Writing; and a burgeoning research student community. Our long standing, productive relationships with the creative industries supports our current and relevant curricula, connects students to professional networks and offers them valuable employment prospects.
As a Lecturer in Dance you will prepare, deliver and assess modules in your specialist areas of dance in three or more of the following areas:
- Dance technique and performance
- Complimentary practices such as yoga and Pilates
- Dance and wellbeing
- Dance science specialisms relating to nutrition and/or anatomy
- The funding and organization of dance in the UK
- Dance of the African diaspora
- Choreography
You will make contributions to a range of modules through your experience of engaging with dance industries and practices. Additionally, you will engage in continuing professional development and use your research and/or professional practice to inform the curriculum and make a substantial contribution to the academic and reputational development of the subject area. Working closely with the Subject Group Lead, the Programme Leader for Dance, and the subject team, you will organise, deliver and evaluate the programme, modules and the students’ experience. The role is on a permanent full-time basis. Due to start 1st September 2025. This role would be suitable for lecturers or experienced practitioners with a passion to train the next generation of dance practitioners.
We are looking for an experienced, dedicated, and forward-thinking Lecturer, who is excited to contribute to the ongoing development of the BA (Hons) Dance programme. With an undergraduate and postgraduate degree and/or significant professional practice, it would be preferable to have excellent knowledge of and practical experience in working in the professional creative industries sector. You will be able to think strategically and creatively about curriculum design and delivery and possess excellent communication, inter-personal and networking skills, with a strong commitment to delivering an excellent student experience and to working within a team to build on the successful reputation of the Dance programme. You will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the academic and reputational development of the subject area, and to engage in professional practice and scholarship activities.
