We are a well-established, reputable, busy firm of solicitors based in Cardiff city centre, specialising in criminal and prison law and seek an ambitious, dedicated solicitor to join our team. The successful candidate will have some experience as an admitted solicitor in criminal law but must be hard working and committed to representing clients facing the criminal justice system. It would be beneficial if the successful candidate had achieved their duty solicitor qualification, however that is not essential provided the successful candidate is willing to work towards achieving that on commencement of employment. Police Station Accreditation and knowledge of the Legal Aid system is essential. Please note a full driving licence and use of own car is required for this role.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring current knowledge of all areas of criminal law and ensuring continued competence
  • Advising clients on the law, evidence and sentencing guidelines applicable to their case
  • Preparing all documents necessary for the criminal justice process (statements, defence case statement, legal arguments etc)
  • Submitting applications for Legal Aid and related matters.
  • Representing clients at all stages of the criminal process (Police station, Magistrates Court, Crown Court etc) and advancing their legal rights.
  • Maintaining accurate case records, time recording and compliance with LAA contract and LEXCEL quality mark, also ensuring clients remain updated on their case progression.
  • You will be required to be on call to represent clients at the police station out of office hours on a weekly rota.
  • You will work under the instruction of senior solicitors.

Hours: This is a full-time position of 35 hours from Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, as well as overtime.

Salary: £TBC (depending upon experience and qualifications) plus overtime for Police station attendance out of hours.
