Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the stock management process ensuring physical stock levels align with the ERP and materials are processed using FIFO methods.
- Own the departmental cost centre, achieving this within budget while identifying and delivering cost reductions within the logistics process.
- Management and maintenance of all MHE on site.
- Ensuring all areas of the warehouse, racking & yards are a safe place to work.
- Provide leadership and direction to the logistics team.
- Motivate, coach and develop a high‑performing logistics team.
- Proactively plan and engage with other departments to ensure a collaborative approach and effective resolution of issues impacting the stock management process and warehouse function.
- Be the point of escalation for the Logistics team on SSQCCP in line with the Tier process.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure the efficient handling of incoming & outgoing deliveries.
Key Accountabilities
- Health, Safety, Security and the Environment
- Responsibility for the management and asset care of all equipment within the logistics process.
- Responsibility for the organisation of waste loads to recycling partners where applicable to ensure lowest levels are sent to landfill/incineration.
- Full responsibility for all Health, Safety, Security and Environmental procedures ensuring they are followed at all times and that employees are actively challenged and take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others.
- Create and maintain a culture where HSSE is a priority.
- Ensure all accidents/near misses are thoroughly investigated and preventative actions are enforced along with feedback to the originator.
- Process confirmation of all safety paperwork including RA’s and SOP’s ensuring they are fit for purpose and add value.
- Ensure Workplace Organisation standards are adhered to at all times.
- Quality
- Create and drive a culture of continuous improvement in all areas. Lead continuous improvement teams where applicable.
- Ensure problem solving activities are owned at Tier 2 including the use of quality tools e.g. 5 Why’s, 8D, Stop and Solve.
- Responsibility for all SQCDP documentation, ensuring that documents are up to date and fit for purpose.
- 100% compliance with internal process control systems and carry out regular audits as standard.
- Ensure all team members are fully aware of job specification/instructions.
- Cost
- Implement and develop KPI’s to ensure cost targets are met and savings are delivered to the logistics process.
- Assist & advise in implementing improvements as necessary.
- Own the ERP ensuring materials are accurate and balanced at all times and physical location of stock aligns with the system.
- Be the escalation point for stock inaccuracies.
- Manage the departmental cost centre, undertaking regular reviews ensuring that costs are maintained within the agreed targets.
- Own and lead all stock takes on site driving accuracy, working in partnership with all departments.
- Investigate all stock variances and implement actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Delivery
- Manage resources to ensure optimum manning levels are achieved.
- Monitor and report against any agreed departmental KPI’s and escape all non‑conformities.
- Own the strategic objectives for the department, continually seeking new opportunities to improve.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders on ways of improving material movements, delivery times/shipping times.
- Ensure raw materials are available in line with the production plan and are processed using FIFO methods.
- Be the point of escalation for logistical variances against plan.
- People
- Ensure relevant communications are carried out across all shifts, including an effective handover process.
- To manage inter‑departmental relationships on shift with assertiveness to ensure effective working between manufacturing and support functions.
- Manage absence, grievance and disciplinary issues in line with DLR company policies with the support of the HR department.
- Effective leadership in managing performance and capability issues using the relevant HR tools.
- Deal with conflict; disciplinary and grievance issues with the support of the HR department.
- Identify, develop and grow future leaders.
- Monitoring individual performance through performance management tools, the PDR and 1:1 programmes, this will include personnel who may not be on the same shift.
- Ensuring adequate staffing levels at all times, arranging additional cover, liaising with other teams and HR where necessary.
- Absence and overtime managed within business unit targets.
Essential Qualification, experience & skills
- Comprehensive manufacturing experience in a complex, process environment.
- ILM/CMI Level 3/4 in first line management (or equivalent).
- IOSH - Mandatory.
- NEBOSH - Desirable.
- In depth knowledge of production/technical processes and procedures, particularly with respect to SSQCDP.
- Knowledge and experience regarding the application of structured problem solving methods.
- Knowledge and experience of HR processes (recruitment, absence management, performance management, grievance, disciplinary etc.), able to promote good employee relations.
- Good understanding of budgetary controls and variance analysis within an operational environment.
- Excellent communication, planning and organising skills.
- Computer literate.
- Excellent people management skills with previous experience of leading a team.
