As a Maintenance Engineer at De La Rue you will ensure that all plant equipment is maintained to maximise productivity and quality in a safe environment. The role requires you to act on your own initiative and refer to Project Engineers for technical or departmental policy advice only when necessary. You will liaise with staff from other departments as required to carry out duties and to refer to Process Leaders or other designated staff when necessary concerning potential loss of production, quality problems or health and safety issues.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry and document routine health and safety checks.
  • Provide technical assistance to production personnel to help with production problems.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions to maintain levels of stock parts or parts for particular jobs.
  • Maintain production plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical or electrical failures through root cause analysis.
  • Undertake repairs as necessary.
  • Change worn parts that reduce equipment performance.
  • Diagnose when preventative maintenance may be required and carry out and document the necessary work.
  • Liaise with suppliers when required to repair and/or maintain equipment.
  • Maintain the site and buildings in good order.
  • Liaise with manufacturing management on larger maintenance jobs or projects, and supervise any subcontractors that may be used to carry out the work.
  • Assist Project Engineers in the manufacture of project equipment when required.

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • HNC/HND in Engineering or Electronics or equivalent qualifications.
  • Craft apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Sound understanding of field demonstrated through prior work experience.
  • FLT Licence.
  • Experience of computerised maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of Asset Care programmes is beneficial.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic in driving continuous improvements.
  • Team player with good communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Desirable

  • Good understanding of the engineering processes required. Problem solving can involve technical analysis, making adjustments to the machinery as required. Judgement is based on practice and precedence rather than in-depth analysis of information.
  • Courtesy and tact to exchange information within the direct team and with other closely related teams.
  • Be familiar with the high risks associated with an ATEX environment.
  • Control techniques and Allen Bradley knowledge would be advantageous.

This is a shift‑based role working on a 24‑7 shift pattern.
