The purpose of this role is to support the execution and continuous improvement of the Crop Nutrients Occupational Health, Hygiene and Wellbeing Strategy. In this role, you will offer specialist advice to the Crop Nutrients team on various aspects including specialist medical oversight to protect, maintain and enhance the health and work capability of employees and contractors. Proactive engagement will drive value‑driven change and provide innovative solutions to effectively manage the health of our workforce.

Qualifications

  • Primary Medical Degree (MBSS or equivalent)
  • Full registration with the national medical regulator (GMC)
  • Experience in remote, industrial or high‑risk environments ideally mining or heavy industry
  • Qualifications in trauma and emergency response (desirable)

Technical Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Experience working in as an OHP role in mining or similar hazardous industries (10 years plus desirable)
  • Understanding of statutory health surveillance relevant to mining
  • Strong understanding of mining legislations and health standards
  • Competency in developing and governing Medical Emergency Response Plans
  • Ability to lead a clinical team
  • Experience in case management and occupational medical assessments
  • Strong report‑writing and communication skills
  • Must be able to work with diverse groups and personalities
  • Self‑confidence, motivation, and strong leadership and organisational skills

Key Tasks

  • Lead and coordinate the Mine Medic team ensuring high standards of clinical practice in occupational health, trauma care and emergency response.
  • Ensure sustained compliance with mandatory health standards, regulatory requirements and recognised best practice.
  • Develop and continuously improve the Medical Emergency Response Plan including clinical protocols, equipment requirements and emergency medical stock.
  • Provide clinical support for unplanned walk‑ins and urgent presentations within the Occupational Health service.
  • Deliver expert medical advice to line managers and HR on sickness absence, fitness for work and rehabilitation pathways.
  • Partner with HR and line managers to ensure effective case management including functional assessments, work restrictions and alternative duties.
  • Support the design and delivery of structured return‑to‑work programmes.
  • Conduct organisational medical assessments including pre‑employment, safety critical, site safety, altitude and exit medicals.
  • Assess work‑related and non‑work‑related illnesses or injury and provide clear evidence‑based clinical reports for HR and line managers.
  • Advise the Section Manager: Occupational Health & Hygiene on health hazards and trends in health screening data.
  • Oversee the delivery of health screening and statutory health surveillance programmes to ensure employee fitness for work and compliance with legislation.
  • Analyse health screening outcomes to identify emerging trends and collaborate with the Section Manager: Occupational Health & Hygiene on targeted interventions.
  • Maintain and develop Patient Group Directives (PGDs) to support safe and compliant clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with the Counsellor on referrals, case management and integrated support for employees experiencing mental health concerns.
  • Promote the culture of wellbeing and contribute to organisational strategies that support psychological health.
  • Facilitate the implementation and integration of occupational health policies, procedures and group standards.
  • Assist in strengthening Occupational Health’s capability and embed the zero‑harm culture.
