About the Role

Our client is a housing provider seeking an experienced Health & Safety Lead Auditor to provide independent assurance that the organisation's Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) is effective, compliant, and continually improving in line with ISO 45001.

You will lead internal audits, support regulatory compliance, investigate health and safety incidents, and work closely with colleagues to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver internal audits of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) in line with ISO 45001 and the organisation's audit programme.
  • Assess compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
  • Produce and present clear audit reports, highlighting risks, non-conformities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor corrective and preventative actions, ensuring audit findings are addressed effectively and within agreed timescales.
  • Lead and support investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and preventative measures.
  • Analyse health and safety performance data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement across the OHSMS.
  • Support the development and review of health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
  • Build effective relationships with managers and stakeholders, promoting a positive health and safety culture.
  • Support external audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance, liaising with external bodies where required.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and health and safety training to colleagues across the organisation.
  • Key Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience leading internal health and safety audits and managing audit programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and UK occupational health and safety legislation.
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent health and safety qualification).
  • Experience working within a regulated, operational, or multi-site environment.
  • Excellent analytical, investigation, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A proactive, organised, and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to promote a positive health and safety culture.
