Reporting to: Head of Certification and Licensing

Location: Remote working

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 5:00pm)

Salary: £29,000 - £35,000 per annum

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Certification and Licensing, the Property Planning Officer will provide guidance on the planning compliance of properties being onboarded, as well as assess and advise on the planning status of existing properties within the portfolio. The role will also involve supporting management with planning-related updates across the portfolio and assisting with the preparation and delivery of internal training and guidance across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and provide guidance on planning applications and conversions, including Lawful Development Certificates, minor commercial applications, applications within conservation areas, listed building consents, and straightforward change-of-use applications.
  • Prepare accurate reports and recommendations in line with current planning legislation and internal requirements, with minimal supervision.
  • Assess the planning status of both existing and newly onboarded properties, ensuring current or proposed occupancy aligns with permitted development and planning regulations.
  • Work closely with the Head of Certification and Licensing and the wider Compliance Directorate on occupancy changes and planning matters.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and analyse information required to respond to queries.
  • Provide support to the Head of Property Standards on a range of project and operational tasks as required.
  • Assist in delivering training and sharing planning and compliance knowledge across the team and wider business.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable practical experience working within Planning Law.
  • Experience reviewing planning applications and working with listed buildings and conservation areas.
  • Ability to independently assess planning issues and provide practical solutions and recommendations.
  • A relevant qualification or qualifying experience in planning or the built environment would be desirable.
  • Experience with property licensing or certification would be desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Awareness of compliance requirements, including Health.
