We are looking for a driven Lead developer within Acoustic Positioning to join an advanced engineering team developing next-generation mission-critical underwater sensing and communications products. This is a high-impact leadership role within the engineering and technology function, responsible for shaping the strategy, architecture, and delivery of innovative underwater acoustic systems. You will work closely with product managers, engineering leadership, and executive stakeholders to maintain and grow market leadership in acoustic positioning and communications.
The business is focused on launching the next generation of robust, secure, easy-to-use, and interoperable underwater systems. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep underwater acoustics expertise with strong technical leadership and systems thinking.
Key Responsibilities- Define and execute the technology strategy for acoustic positioning systems, including advanced acoustic positioning solutions
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, software, embedded systems, and testing
- Drive the design and development of advanced subsea communications and positioning devices
- Own embedded architecture, system design, and technology direction across product lines
- Work with customers and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and shape roadmaps
- Guide modelling, simulation, and system performance analysis to accelerate product development
- Support NPI and production teams to improve repeatability, quality, and manufacturing efficiency
- Define DevOps methodologies, shared libraries, coding standards, and release workflows
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the wider engineering organisation
- Represent the company at technical reviews, customer meetings, and industry events
- 5+ years’ experience in underwater acoustic systems
- Strong understanding of underwater acoustic principles and navigation methods
- Expertise in embedded architecture and system design
- Strong C/C++ development skills within complex engineering environments
- Experience leading complex technical projects across multiple disciplines
- Strong data analysis and modelling capability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with documentation, technical reports, and customer presentations
- USBL and LBL system design
- Linux RT embedded applications
- Systems architecture leadership
- Project or programme management
- Budget planning / engineering budget contribution
- Experience working with matrix engineering organisations
