Site Agent/Site Manager – Highways Maintenance & Improvements

Lead the Delivery of Highways Schemes Across Hertfordshire
We are recruiting for an experienced Site Agent to support the delivery of highways maintenance and improvement schemes across Hertfordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong highways or civil engineering background who enjoys leading site teams and taking ownership of delivery. You will coordinate resources, monitor progress and ensure works are completed safely, on programme and to the required quality and commercial standards.
The Role
You will lead day-to-day site operations across maintenance and improvement schemes, working closely with operational, engineering and commercial teams. You will provide visible leadership in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality while supporting and developing site teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and sequencing works to maximise productivity and minimise disruption.
- Leading site operations and coordinating labour, equipment and materials.
- Monitoring progress against programme and resolving delivery issues proactively.
- Ensuring costs are correctly allocated, value is maximised and waste is minimised.
- Liaising with supervisors, engineers, managers and commercial teams.
- Undertaking and responding to safety, quality and environmental audits.
- Maintaining accurate site records, paperwork and progress reports.
- Ensuring works meet relevant industry standards and company procedures.
- Engaging professionally with clients, inspectors and members of the public.
- Supporting and developing site teams, promoting positive behaviours and high standards.
Skills and Experience Required
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- A strong background in highways maintenance or civil engineering.
- Proven experience delivering schemes on site.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate operational teams.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and resolve site delivery challenges.
- A strong commitment to health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- A CSCS Supervisor card.
- Street Works qualifications.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A flexible, resilient and professional approach.
