Design Engineer – Highways & Infrastructure
The Role
A leading infrastructure and highways services provider is looking for a Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
In this role, you will support the design and delivery of various highway schemes across the region. You will work closely alongside senior engineers and project delivery teams, gaining exposure to the complete lifecycle of major highways infrastructure projects within a collaborative and supportive environment.
This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious engineer looking to progress their career within a major service contract environment and expand their technical highways expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of highway design solutions and technical documentation across local infrastructure projects.
- Assist with project planning, delivery coordination, and programme scheduling.
- Ensure all designs and technical outputs strictly comply with DMRB, TSRGD, CDM 2015, and local authority standards.
- Coordinate effectively with internal design teams, client representatives, and statutory bodies.
- Support project cost estimations, risk management processes, and ongoing programme updates.
- Contribute to design risk assessments and maintain accurate engineering records.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience or background within highways engineering or general civil infrastructure.
- Working proficiency in AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office packages.
- Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset regarding design and site considerations.
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn and progress within a structured team environment.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of UK highways standards (DMRB, TSRGD, Manual for Streets).
- Familiarity with CDM regulations and designer responsibilities.
- Progression towards professional qualification with the ICE or CIHT.
