Site-based, with occasional travel
An opportunity is available for a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering organisation developing complex electronic systems for demanding subsea and marine environments.
The role offers hands-on involvement in electronics used in underwater applications, working across analogue, digital and mixed-signal hardware, embedded systems and programmable devices. You will contribute to the design, verification, fault-finding and improvement of reliable subsea equipment, supporting products from development through to manufacture and service.
This position would suit an experienced electronics engineer who enjoys solving challenging hardware problems, evaluating design approaches and taking technical ownership. You will collaborate with engineering and production colleagues, provide technical guidance and contribute to design reviews, without formal line-management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronics for subsea and marine equipment, including low-power and low-noise designs
- Work with FPGA and microprocessor-based systems, embedded software and hardware/firmware interfaces
- Contribute to design reviews, assess technical options and help guide robust design decisions
- Carry out hands-on lab testing, debugging and fault-finding across hardware and embedded systems
- Support EMC testing and verification, maintain clear design documentation, and assist with production issues and ongoing product improvements
Key Skills
- Strong experience in analogue and digital electronics design, circuit development and practical hardware engineering
- Experience with FPGA and microprocessor-based systems, plus embedded C programming or the ability to diagnose embedded software/hardware issues
- Knowledge of low-power/low-noise design principles and EMC-aware design and testing
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, ideally Altium
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent practical design experience
Desirable Experience
- Experience with embedded C and/or C++ and microprocessor software
- Experience in subsea or marine electronics, instrumentation, defence, aerospace or other complex electronic systems
What's on offer
- A permanent role with varied, hands-on engineering work
- Exposure to hardware design, embedded systems, programmable logic, testing and product development
- The opportunity to influence technical decisions and solve challenging engineering problems
