Develop Your Engineering and Package Management Career on a Major Infrastructure Project

We are recruiting for a Section Engineer to join one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects at Old Oak Common.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Section Engineer, Site Engineer or Assistant Package Manager with major infrastructure experience who wants to develop their engineering and package management responsibilities.

The role has a strong highways focus, with some utility interfaces. Experience managing non-contestable utility works would be beneficial.

The Role

Reporting to the Package Manager, you will support the planning, coordination and management of highways and utility works. Your focus will be on engineering oversight, contractor coordination and programme delivery, rather than routine day-to-day site delivery activities.

You will work closely with contractors, designers, stakeholders and delivery teams to resolve technical challenges, manage interfaces and ensure works meet safety, quality and programme requirements. This position is fully site-based.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the management and delivery of highways and associated utility packages.
  • Coordinating contractors and monitoring delivery against programme objectives.
  • Providing engineering oversight and technical support across your section of works.
  • Reviewing designs, construction methodologies and temporary works requirements.
  • Maintaining high health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Supporting pre-construction planning, constructability reviews and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitoring progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Maintaining accurate engineering records, progress reports and project documentation.
  • Managing interfaces between disciplines, contractors and work packages.
  • Supporting non-contestable utility works where applicable.
  • Working collaboratively with commercial, planning and design teams.

Skills and Experience Required

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • Experience as a Section Engineer, Site Engineer or Assistant Package Manager within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Previous engineering experience on a major infrastructure project.
  • Relevant highways experience, with an understanding of associated utility interfaces.
  • Strong setting-out knowledge and practical site engineering experience.
  • A good understanding of construction planning, sequencing and programme management.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing site interfaces.
  • Strong health and safety awareness and knowledge of quality management processes.
  • The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and engineering controls.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A valid CSCS card.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • The ability to work on site at Old Oak Common.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience on major rail or transport infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of utility diversions and non-contestable works.
  • Experience supporting pre-construction and constructability activities.
  • A degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Progress towards professional accreditation with ICE, IEng or CEng.

What’s on Offer?

  • Salary of £41,000-£47,500 per annum.
  • £4,500 car allowance.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a landmark infrastructure project.
  • Exposure to engineering coordination, contractor management and package delivery.
  • The opportunity to develop your career alongside experienced engineering and project teams.
