Hybrid Working (3 days per week in office) Permanent. We are currently supporting an innovative and rapidly growing deep-tech business developing advanced assurance technology for autonomous and AI-enabled systems. This organisation is focused on enabling the safe and trusted deployment of autonomous technologies within highly regulated and safety-critical environments. Their current work is centred around Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), with future expansion planned across wider aerospace and autonomous mobility sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Systems Engineer looking to work on genuinely cutting-edge technology within a collaborative engineering environment. You will have the chance to influence both product development and engineering processes while working alongside specialists across embedded software, autonomy, machine learning and safety engineering. The role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced, problem-solving environment and enjoys taking ownership of technically challenging projects.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop system architectures for autonomous and AI-enabled systems, primarily within UAS applications.
- Collaborate closely with embedded software, machine learning and safety engineering teams to integrate complex hardware and software systems.
- Conduct system-level analysis, trade studies and risk assessments to support safety, performance and regulatory compliance.
- Define and maintain system requirements, interfaces and technical specifications.
- Lead system integration, verification and validation activities throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Support engineering reviews, customer demonstrations and certification-related activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, methodologies and tooling.
- Support the development of scalable assurance solutions for safety-critical autonomous systems.
- Degree, MSc or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience designing and delivering complex safety-critical systems within aerospace, robotics or autonomous systems environments.
- Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies including MBSE and SysML.
- Understanding of software and hardware architecture principles, embedded systems and real-time systems.
- Experience working with safety-critical development standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A and ARP4761.
- Understanding of JARUS SORA and/or UK SORA frameworks.
- Familiarity with UAS regulations and operational standards (FAA, EASA, ICAO etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
- Previous experience working within Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
- Experience using systems engineering tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, Enterprise Architect or similar.
- Exposure to AI/ML-enabled autonomous systems.
- Experience working within a startup or high-growth technology business.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK security clearance.
