We are currently recruiting for an experienced Deputy Head of Building Control (Class 3 Specialist) to join an established Building Control team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Building Control professional to take on a leadership role, managing and mentoring inspectors while providing specialist technical expertise across complex and high-risk developments.

The role will involve managing a portfolio of projects, undertaking plan appraisals and site inspections, dealing with compliance and enforcement matters, supporting Building Safety Regulator requirements and deputising for the Head of Building Control when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise and mentor a team of Building Control inspectors
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required
  • Manage a portfolio of complex and high-risk building projects
  • Undertake plan appraisals and site inspections
  • Provide specialist technical advice on Building Regulations compliance
  • Deal with enforcement, contraventions, unauthorised works and dangerous structures
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Act 1984, Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Regulations 2010
  • Liaise with the Building Safety Regulator and key stakeholders
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate project records
  • Support inspector registration, competency and professional development
  • Provide expert witness evidence where required

Key Skills & Experience

  • Substantial Building Control experience across a range of developments
  • Experience working on complex and high-risk buildings
  • Proven team management or technical leadership experience
  • Relevant degree/qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered membership of RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent
  • Class 3 Building Inspector registration or equivalent validated competency
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations 2010 and Building Act 1984
  • Good understanding of Building Safety Act 2022 and BSR requirements
  • Strong plan appraisal and site inspection experience
  • Excellent technical judgement, communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to mentor and develop other inspectors
  • Full UK driving licence / suitable transport
