B2 Licensed Aircraft Engineer – Defence Aviation Sector

Our client, a leading provider of specialist aviation and defence training services, is seeking an experienced B2 Licensed Aircraft Engineer to join their engineering team based north of Heathrow Airport. This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled B2 LAE to join a highly regarded aviation organisation operating within a safety-critical environment, supporting a specialist aircraft fleet that delivers advanced training and operational readiness services to defence customers across the UK and NATO allied nations.

Working within a Part-145 approved maintenance organisation, you will play a vital role in maintaining aircraft availability, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting operational excellence across the engineering function.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor and Chief Engineer, the B2 Licensed Aircraft Engineer will be responsible for supporting the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of aircraft maintenance activities. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, certification privileges and engineering leadership while supporting the development of colleagues and maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. This role requires an individual who places safety at the forefront of every decision and can thrive within a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aircraft Maintenance & Certification
    • Certify all B2 maintenance activities carried out during shift operations
    • Conduct scheduled base maintenance inspections and aircraft checks
    • Support daily flightline operations and aircraft servicing requirements
    • Diagnose and rectify aircraft defects in accordance with approved procedures
    • Support aircraft operating away from base locations when required
    • Undertake aircraft ground movements as delegated by the Shift Supervisor
    • Ensure all maintenance documentation is completed accurately and on time
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance
    • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all engineering activities
    • Support and encourage a positive reporting and Just Culture environment
    • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with: Part-145 regulations, Approved maintenance manuals, Company procedures, Quality and regulatory requirements
    • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within all work areas
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Leadership & Team Support
    • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering personnel
    • Assist with daily planning, prioritisation and task allocation
    • Support the Shift Supervisor in the management of engineering activities
    • Deputise for the Shift Supervisor when required
    • Foster strong relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders
    • Promote company values and professional standards at all times

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential Qualifications & Experience
    • Unrestricted UK Part-66 B2 Licence
    • Britten-Norman BN2-T (RR250) Type Rating – Type rating can be provided if you do not hold this.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating at Licensed Aircraft Engineer level
    • Strong working knowledge of aircraft maintenance regulations and compliance requirements
    • Experience working within a Part-145 maintenance environment
    • Proven ability to work to deadlines and operational schedules
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong leadership and team development capability
    • Eligible to obtain or hold UK Security Clearance (SC)
    • Medically fit to undertake engineering duties and detached working requirements
  • Desirable
    • Previous experience within base maintenance and workshop environments
    • Defence or military aviation experience
    • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives
    • Project planning or task management experience

Working Requirements

Due to the operational nature of the business, candidates should be prepared to:

  • Work additional hours when required
  • Participate in on-call support activities
  • Travel to support aircraft operating away from home base
  • Adapt to customer-driven operational demands
