A leading specialist organisation within the oil & gas sector is seeking a Production Chemist to join its production team in Uttoxeter. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly technical environment manufacturing UKAS accredited calibration gases and reference materials for customers across the industry.

Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will combine scientific knowledge with hands-on production responsibilities, ensuring products are manufactured safely, accurately and to the highest quality standards.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in producing calibration gases and reference materials while maintaining compliance with accredited quality systems. Working closely with Production, Laboratory, Logistics and Site Services teams, they will ensure customer requirements are met efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture gravimetrically prepared calibration gases and reference materials in accordance with ISO 6142 and ISO 17034 accredited procedures.
  • Prepare and manufacture gas mixtures, including oxygen and flammable gases, following approved operating procedures.
  • Prepare gas cylinders for filling, including painting, valve fitting, treatment and evacuation.
  • Manage cylinder inventory and support stock control of gas cylinders and source gases.
  • Coordinate with Laboratory and Production teams to maintain production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Maintain production records, databases and KPI reporting.
  • Label and control finished cylinders ready for dispatch.
  • Identify and report equipment faults, working alongside management and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Support forklift loading activities and cylinder movements between sites.
  • Ensure all work complies with company quality systems, health & safety procedures and confidentiality requirements.

Key Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of A-Level qualification in a science-related discipline.
  • Experience working within a laboratory or production environment.
  • Experience handling high-pressure gas cylinders, vacuum equipment and precision balances.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Previous experience working within ISO accredited or UKAS environments would be highly advantageous.
